O&O DiskImage 18: Fast and secure Backup for Windows 11
A backup is the most important protection against data loss. With the current version O&O DiskImage 18, a data backup of the entire computer, hard disks and partitions can be created even faster and more conveniently. Individual files and directories can also be easily backed up. The creation of a boot medium to start the PC in the event of a failure has been improved, as has the recovery to new hardware, which runs almost automatically.
This boot medium can also be used to create a 1:1 copy of a PC when it is switched off, without this PC being modified or O&O DiskImage having to be installed on it.
O&O DiskImage supports Windows 11, 10 und 8
O&O DiskImage can be installed on the Windows 10 and 8 operating systems as well as on the new Windows 11.
Data backups created with earlier versions of O&O DiskImage can still be used since the new version 18 is compatible with the previous versions. The older Windows version 7 is also supported with the boot medium, which is independent of the Windows version, beyond its “End of Life”, so that the corresponding backups can still be restored.
Comprehensive VHD / VHDX Functionality
Working on virtual machines is even more secure with the new O&O DiskImage 18. With O&O DiskImage it is possible to convert O&O DiskImage image files into virtual images of the Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk (VHDX and VHD) type. O&O DiskImage 18 can be used to create incremental and differential images of virtual drives. Merging and mounting images as a drive is also possible. If a backup exists, access to the saved files is possible within seconds and work can be continued without loss of time or data.
O&O DiskImage with redesigned User Interface
The interface has been redesigned to make it even more intuitive and easier to use. New features such as creating and combining incremental and differential VHD and VHDX files are now integrated in the menu navigation.
New and enhanced features
Backup physical machines in virtual machines (P2V): O&O DiskImage image files can be converted into Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk (VHDX and VHD) virtual images. This type of converted image can be mounted directly as a virtual drive on a virtual computer without having to install O&O DiskImage. Time zone and key settings will be taken from the target system.
Creation of incremental and differential VHD and VHDX files: O&O DiskImage can be used to create incremental and differential images of virtual drives. Combining and mounting these drives is also possible.
User interface: The O&O user interface has been redesigned so that it’s even more intuitive and easier to use.
O&O DiskImage RecoveryPartition: O&O DiskImage saves the recovery environment on the computer itself, so that in the event of system failure the system can be started directly from there – including the last system image.
O&O DiskImage ToGo: With O&O DiskImage it is possible to create a boot medium on USB Stick or CD-R directly from within the program. This medium can then be used to restore an image onto a computer. O&O DiskImage supports all current Windows versions from Windows 7 to Windows 11.
One-Click imaging: With just one click, a user can start to image the entire computer. One-Click imaging is especially useful if O&O DiskImage is being used for the first time or when an existing computer image is not available.
Restoration onto different hardware: The integrated M.I.R. (machine independent restoration) feature allows users to restore a system onto different hardware. Not only can an image or clone be restored onto servers and desktops with identical hardware, they can also be restored onto machines where, for example, the motherboard or processor has been changed. After the image has been restored, the new hardware can be adapted, and the system can once again be started. Technology from the renowned O&O BlueCon Administrator Pack is used for doing this.
Restoration of system backups: To restore an entire PC or the system partition, O&O DiskImage can be started directly from a boot medium, no installation required. If certain hardware components of the PC were exchanged between backup and restoration, or even a new PC was purchased, this is not a problem: thanks to the Machine Independent Restoration (MIR), O&O DiskImage can restore existing images on computers with a changed hardware configuration.
Cloning machines: Cloning will create a 1:1 copy (or clone) of the disk or partition(s) directly on the target disk. This feature provides an immediate copy of the hard disk structure including its partition sectors. A cloned disk contains all partitions of the source disk.
Creation of system images: When imaging a drive, the entire content of a selected disk or partition will be saved in an image file on a target disk. All the backed-up data is thereby located in one single file which makes managing backups much easier. A complete imaging of a system hard disk will involve backing up the entire operating system as well as all programs and settings. The image file can be encrypted with a password whenever necessary.
Making file backups: File backups will involve saving files directly in the form of data. This kind of backup contains file information only and includes no information about the drive itself.
Data backup on a bootable medium: The DiskImage To Go feature can turn an external hard disk (or USB stick with enough free space) into an O&O DiskImage recovery disk and at the same time make this disk the preferred device for all future system restorations. O&O DiskImage will automatically make a new backup whenever this external disk is connected to the computer. Making new backups is now child’s play.
Mounting backups as virtual drives: Drives can be mounted from images and displayed as write-protected virtual drives in Windows Explorer. This gives users the option of copying individual files and folders onto physical disks.
Mounting data from ISO files: Standard ISO files (ISO 9660) can be mounted as data image files and as virtual hard disks.
Script interface:Control of all O&O DiskImage features with extensive script interfaces for integrating batches as well as a user’s own applications.
Various imaging methods: For a complete image, users can choose between an image of used sectors and an all-inclusive forensic image for purposes of data recovery. An incremental or differential image will only backup those data areas that have changed since the last image operation, thus saving space.
EFI/UEFI Systems: O&O DiskImage not only supports systems based on the classic BIOS, but the current EFI/UEFI systems as well.
Plug and Play functionality: Selected files and folders are automatically backed up and synchronized. With the new O&O DiskImage, it is possible to run several tasks at the same time.
Extension of file-based restoration: Invalid or defective files can now be skipped.
Optimized memory usage: It’s possible to set the maximum number of images that can be saved before older images should be automatically overwritten.
User interface: With the completely revamped O&O DiskImage user interface, all the product’s features are just a click away. Actions can be started manually, run as jobs on schedules, or carried out automatically.
Variable DPI settings: O&O DiskImage adjusts perfectly to the selected DPI setting.
High Contrast Mode support: High Contrast Mode support has been improved to make objects on the monitor easier to recognize.
